Kazuhisa Shimada, a Former Vice Minister of Defense of Japan,
Appointed as Special Advisor to Wisteria House Tokyo
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Kazuhisa Shimada, a former vice minister of defense, has been appointed as our Special Advisor, effective April 1st.
Mr. Shimada served as the Vice Minister of Defense from 2020 to 2022. During the second Abe administration, he served as the Executive Secretary to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe from 2012 to 2019.
Throughout his career at the Ministry of Defense, he held key positions such as Director of Defense Planning and Programming Division, Director of Defense Policy Division, and Director-General of the Minister’s Secretariat. At the Prime Minister’s Office, he has served as Cabinet Councilor and Special Advisor to the Cabinet.
Currently, he serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Public Policy, a Specially Invited Professor at Keio University’s Faculty of Policy Management, Chairman of the Board, All-Japan Defense Association, and Vice President of the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies
As a co-author of books such as “Japan’s Defense Legislation” and “The Taboo of National Defense”, Mr. Shimada actively contributes to discussions on Japan’s defense and security policies, making him one of the most trusted experts in the field.
